Minor tweaks enhance Ford F-250 (above) and F-350 pickups.

Ford's Super Duty F-Series pickup lineup, which includes the Super Duty F-250 through the F-550, was redesigned for the 1999 model year, allowing it to offer more than one-third more configurations than the nearest competitor in its class. Ford reports the models offer the highest payload rating and GVWR of any pickup on the market, and more interior room for occupants in every seating position.

The 2002 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 pickups received minor improvements, including powertrain refinements and interior upgrades designed to enhance comfort and convenience. A new instrument cluster with a transmission temperature gauge is now standard on all models equipped with an automatic transmission. Also, an upgrade has been made from a standard five- to six-speed manual transmission on 5.4L and 6.8L gasoline engines, on all trim levels

Since many pickup drivers use their trucks to run auxiliary equipment, requiring a provision for power takeoff (PTO), the Super Duty F-250 and F-350's six-speed manual transmission has a standard left-side PTO. A left-side PTO is also optional on the four-speed automatic.

The F-250/F-350 models, properly equipped, can tow 12,500 lb, the highest conventional trailer towing of any pickup in their class. Super Duty F-350/450/550 Chassis Cabs have a maximum towing capacity of 21,500 lb.

Dual rear wheels are available as an option to increase rear traction, improve towing stability and provide increased rear axle weight ratings. An optional limited-slip rear axle improves performance in low traction situations such as off-road driving or slick pavement.
