2009 GMC Yukon Denali Preview
![]() ![]() Yukon Denali gets exclusive new features for 2009
By Bill Roebuck
![]() These models boast all of the Yukon's features plus many more exclusive to the Denali nameplate.
The Denali has its own look with a distinctive chrome grille. New body side mouldings for 2009 enhance its sleek look, and now-standard 20-in. wheels give it a bold stance.
The 6.2 L V8 engine in the Denali uses advanced technologies and lightweight materials, including variable valve timing and an aluminum cylinder block, which helps it deliver more efficient performance. The engine is rated at 403 hp and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. Also new for 2009, this engine is FlexFuel-enabled, meaning it can run on E85 ethanol, gasoline or any combination of the two fuels.
This powertrain uses a new Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic with two overdrive gears to balance performance and fuel economy. It also has a tap-up/tap-down shift function. All Denali models have full-time all-wheel drive.
Brakes are power-assisted, four-wheel vented disc with a four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dynamic rear proportioning (DRP) for confident stops in various road conditions.
Both standard and extended length models (XL) are available. Standard features include power liftgate, power release second-row fold-and-tumble bucket seat, power-adjustable pedals, auto-dimming inside mirror, automatic windshield wipers, remote start system and Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist.
![]() There's still more when it comes to convenience options, including a navigation radio system, rearview camera system, power sunroof, power-retractable assist steps and a rear-seat, and a DVD-based entertainment system.
Leather seating with heated first- and second-row captain's seats are standard, along with a Denali-exclusive leather-wrapped steering wheel that harbours the most useful auxiliary controls at the driver's fingertips. A new power-adjustable heated steering wheel with Easy Entry/Exit also is included. The front seats incorporate both heating and cooling.
GMC's 360-degree perimeter safety system of occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies encompasses head curtain side air bags and a stronger vehicle structure.
The Denali-exclusive side blind zone alert system uses radar sensors behind the rear fascia on both sides of the vehicle that signal an audible and visual alert if objects are detected in blind zones.
Safety, luxury, power and capacity -- at a price that starts at $70,205 -- in a word, you can say the Denali is nothing less than 'comprehensive.'
