2013 Porsche Cajun announced
Porsche has revealed it will go ahead with development of a new entry-level SUV to be called the Cajun
During its meeting on Nov. 29, 2010, the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG laid the foundations for continuous and successful growth of the company. The Supervisory Board instructed the Board of Management to drive forward the development of a new model series. Under the working name 'Cajun', this efficient and sporty model will build upon the success of the Porsche Cayenne in the SUV sector, aka a baby Cayenne.
Much like the new Cayenne, the Cajun will feature typical Porsche characteristics such as light weight, ease of handling and agility.
As an attractive entry-level model, the Cajun is aimed at attracting new and even younger customers to the Porsche brand, along with the Boxster, the market leader in the segment of two-seater, mid-size sports cars.
It's anticipated the Cajun could arrive as early as 2013 but could yet be confirmed as a 2014 or 2015 model. The concept version of the model is likely to appear at auto shows in 2011.
The Cajun will likely go head-to-head against the BMW X4, also expected for 2013 or 2014. It will be the sixth model in the Porsche line-up, adding to the existing Cayenne, Panamera, 911, Boxster and Cayman models.
