Would you like to support this site?

CarTest! is a non-commercial website in that it does not sell anything, and the information here is offered freely to everyone. The upkeep of a site such as this is a time-consuming proposition, so if you've found it helpful in your automotive research, and care to support its ongoing existence, you can if you wish make a modest donation towards its upkeep (say $5 or $10). Are we influenced by advertising on our site?

Absolutely not, and here's why. All ads are placed by a third party, Google Adsense, and in fact, we never know which ads will appear until we visit CarTest! ourselves to see what's showing up. (We've banned scams and offensive ad content because we never want to see that type of content here or anywhere on the web.) This type of advertising, where we do not have direct influence over it, helps to ensure our independence, yet brings in a bit of income to support some of the expenses of running this site and helps keep the site free to use. In no way would an advertisement here influence what we have to say about a vehicle in a review.

Who we are

Crash CorriganKevin 'Crash' Corrigan, Senior Reviewer

Stephen Hess.Stephen Hess, Photographer

Who: Our editor and chief reviewer is Bill Roebuck, an award-winning business and consumer magazine editor and writer, and a member of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). Kevin 'Crash' Corrigan is the nom-de-plume of reviewer Kevin Robinson of Caledon, ON. Photographer Stephen Hess (www.Shhphoto.ca) is based in Calgary, AB, as is contributor Doug Neilson.

What: CarTest.ca©TM is a Canadian website developed to provide unbiased, informative reviews of hands-on test drives of new cars and light trucks. We do our best to let drivers appreciate what it's like to experience of each vehicle without having to sit in the driver's seat themselves.

Where: CarTest!TM is edited in Canada from a Canadian perspective, yet has readers from all around the world.

When: The CarTest.caTM website was launched June 24, 2002.

Why: Our aim is to help you shorten your research time when you're considering the purchase or lease of a new vehicle by giving you feedback on our driving experiences. We also provide links to other websites we trust so you can expand the range of driving impressions you read.

How: Most of our test drives are a week long, using vehicles provided by the manufacturers. Our tests incorporate a variety of road conditions, from smooth highways to potholed and patched pavement, from bumpy city streets to dirt roads down to the horse barn. If we're lucky we get to report on driving in both wet and dry conditions.

Despite the fact that vehicles are provided to us by the manufacturers (the cost of purchasing or renting vehicles for private testing is prohibitive), we endeavour to maintain an independent perspective on the vehicles. Our goal is to tell you what the drive is like for us, and what it will be like for you. We'll point out the great features and the lousy ones. If there's bad design, we'll be sure to mention it.

And when we have knowledge of reputable information from other sources on reliability and safety ratings, we'll tell you where to find it.

Many of our reports include data from  the world's toughest, most comprehensive, independent testing event, AJAC's annual TestFest of new vehicles, held each fall. As members, the association gives us ready access to its extensive instrumented test data. You can read details about the test methods and procedures at www.ajac.ca, the website of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.

The fact that we are members of AJAC also means we have a Code of Ethics to uphold.

Note that we always recommend that before buying a vehicle, you read comments from several automotive journalists to be sure to get a balanced viewpoint about a vehicle, and check other resources such as Consumer Reports, Phil Edmonston's LemonAide guide, and check for safety and reliability data on the Internet (see the list and links to a wide range of other helpful online resources under How to Find the Best Vehicle).

We welcome all comments and suggestions on our reviews and on this website, and are very glad you've taken the time to stop by. Please bookmark us for future reference, and don't hesitate to stop by anytime you feel like experiencing a drive from the seat of your computer.
