GM Canada extends powertrain warranty to five years

GM Canada will now offer extended powertrain protection with coverage up to 160,000 km or five years, courtesy transportation and roadside assistance across its entire 2007 car and light duty truck model line up in Canada.

The coverage includes a no-deductible, fully-transferable expanded powertrain protection plan covering Canadian 2007 model year Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn vehicles. GM will extend the existing roadside assistance plan and courtesy transportation program to up to 160,000 kilometres or five years for powertrain issues.

GM's New Vehicle Limited Warranty remains unchanged: four years/80,000 kilometres for Buick, Cadillac, Hummer and Saab vehicles; and three years/60,000 kilometres for Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn vehicles.

The new General Motors Five Year/160,000 kilometre powertrain warranty covers over 900 different components related to the engine, transmission, transfer case (if applicable) and final drive assemblies.

The major components covered include:

1. All engine components from the throttle body unit, into the engine and out to the exhaust manifolds

2. All automatic transmission/transaxle internally lubricated components as well as the torque converter

3. All manual transmission components internally lubricated as well as defects in clutch release bearing, pressure plate and flywheel (normal clutch disc maintenance excluded)

4. All transfer case (if applicable) internally lubricated components as well as actuators

5. All final drive internally lubricated components as well as mounts, front actuator, locking hubs and bearings

6. All drive, propeller and axle shafts as well as constant velocity and universal joints

7. All front and rear hub bearings.
