Honda brings robot to Montreal Grand Prix
MONTREAL (June 8, 2021) - As a major sponsor of the Grand Prix du Canada 2007 in Montreal, Honda has brought the world's most advanced humanoid robot, ASIMO, to Honda World.
This is the first time for ASIMO to ever appear at an F1 race. ASIMO will give presentations on Honda's `green, safe, fun' initiatives at Honda World, a special exhibit at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to showcase Honda innovations throughout the race weekend.
“We are involved in the Grand Prix du Canada because of our heritage in motorsports and in support of the Honda Racing F1 Team,” said Jim Miller, executive vice-president, Honda Canada Inc.
“As our founder Soichiro Honda said, `Without racing there is no Honda.' Throughout a half-century of racing, Honda has turned inspiration into innovation and dreams into reality. The Grand Prix du Canada provides us an excellent backdrop to showcase Honda's innovations in the arena of mobility, including our competition in F1 racing.”
Honda World is a dynamic exhibit designed to bring race fans closer to Honda's innovations in the areas of safety, environment and technology through all its products, including cars, trucks, ATVs, motorcycles and a wide range of power equipment.
During the three-day race weekend, Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO will conduct presentations at Honda World to explain how Honda's quest for safety and environmental leadership has created real-world results for all Canadians. ASIMO will also conduct demonstrations, such as walking up stairs, dancing and various other movements.
Also featured at Honda World is a replica of Honda's “myearthdream” F1 race car. To help raise awareness of the environmental issues facing the planet, Honda's RA107 F1 race car features an image of planet earth, in place of the traditional advertising and sponsor logos. The car's new look is a call to action for the public to join Honda's commitment to the environment. Visit www.myearthdream.com for more information.
Honda World's climate-controlled environment will also feature Honda's famed RA272 F1 race car driven to Honda's first F1 victory at the Mexican Grand Prix by Richie Ginther in 1965. This is the first time this historic car has been on Canadian soil.
ASIMO, which stands for “Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility,” was conceived by Honda to function in human environments to aid those who are physically challenged.
Twenty of Honda's new CBR125 entry-level motorcycles will be featured in the pre-race Parade Lap on Sunday, June 10. The new CBR125 was introduced specifically to encourage new riders to enter the sport of motorcycling in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. In addition to sporty performance and stylish design, it has the lowest exhaust emissions in its class.
